Man I hate Pfizer

Just finished watching the Newshour with Jim Leher and there's a freekin' "corporate sponsor" ad from Pfizer showing just how "benign" they are. "When you need medicine, we'll be there." Yeah they'll be there. But if you don't have enough money, you're not gettin' any...

The pinched nerve in my right thigh suddenly started hurting really really really bad this last week. Worse than it ever has in the 15 years I've had it. I increased my dose of Neurontin (made by, who else?) and it made much of the pain go away. Except that since I doubled my dose, I'm running out of it before I get my next refill. Which I have to get from Canada because I can't afford to get it from the pharmacy down the street. And every time I increase the dose, it costs me another $30 a month.

Pfizer won't help me with the price because my other drugs are covered by Medicaid (though it won't cover this drug). Okay, so what about being on Medicaid possibly suggests that I have an extra $500 a month laying around for one medication??? My entire income (Supplemental Security Income -- SSI) is only $579.

At the moment, my pain has come back because I've had to decrease the dosage again so I don't run out before I get my refill this weekend (and hopefully I'll get it then).

And needless to say, I'm a bit cranky. And I really really really hate Pfizer right now.

Update 2/19: I ran out of Neurontin today before my refill arrives from Canada so I had the doctor write a prescription for a few days that I could fill at my local pharmacy until it arrives. OMG -- for 4 pills it was $20! Pfizer is no better than common theives and extortionists. Such price gouging should be illegal. Except, of course, Pfizer gave the Republicans over $1 million last year.

America really feels like a third world banana republic sometimes.
